Ruby on Rails Developer (junior/mid) to build great UX apps at MeisterLabs (Wien, Austria)

We build highly usable, award-winning productivity tools based on modern web tech (Rails, React, Node.js). Our main app MindMeister is the market-leading web-based mind mapping and brainstorming solution with almost 5 million users, and with MeisterTask we've just launched a hot new collaborative task manager that is quickly grabbing market share from apps like Trello and Asana and gets a lot of user love (don't believe us? check this out: https://twitter.com/meistertask/timelines/606017093071458304).

Both product teams currently have three front-end and two back-end developers - but we need more! You'd help us perfect our existing products and make them the best-looking, fastest, and most intuitive productivity apps out there (we also have one or two new products in the pipeline that are just waiting for the loving touch of a talented engineer). On the backend we use Ruby on Rails (currently 4.2, beta-testing 5.0) and for some things also Node.js. On the frontend we use web standards (JavaScript / CSS3 / HTML5) and constantly monitor the market for new concepts and libraries like Flux or React. You'll work closely with the entire team - about 20 young, enthusiastic people from all over Europe - based in our central Vienna office location (next to the Rathaus).

Our main need is for a Rails developer, but even if you've done only PHP or Node in the backend so far, and are willing to get into some Rails, you might be a great fit for us. Also, if you're in any way marketing-wise inclined, read on: we want to build a real Growth team at MeisterLabs, i.e. a group of people who develop a lot of cool things in a short time frame, test them, analyze results, and reiterate - all with a view of optimizing our conversion funnels and the overall usability of the products. So if A/B testing is something you always wanted to try out but never found anyone that would pay you handsomely for it, apply now!

To give you a better idea what we're about, here's what the product teams have been doing the last three months:

  • MindMeister: After just migrating our backend to Ruby on Rails v4.1, we're looking to update the core of our application, the mind map view, by enhancing the user experience and the performance with the aid of new Javascript technologies - possibly using React and Flux - and improving the collaboration feature by using web sockets. We're also looking at the beta of Rails 5, which might finally allow us to use web sockets for our real-time collaboration features.

  • MeisterTask: Since launching the product last April, we've added many cool new features, integrations into tools such as Slack, Github, Zendesk, and Zapier, as well as launched an API. Right now we're evaluating various React and Flux libraries and modularising our front-end libraries using npm packages. We've also built a native Mac and Windows app (based on electron, so basically a wrapper of the web interface) and are doing the same for Android now.

Will you be happy here? Well, there are no guarantees for anything in this world, but so far we've had nobody leave on their own account (and very, very few on ours). People seem to like it here, and we think you will too!  Also check out some of our other pastimes from the "About MeisterLabs" section.
