We believe that everybody should have the chance to learn a foreign language. Languages are about much more than simple everyday communication, they are a unique window into a rich world of diverse and colourful cultures. Babbel exists to offer everybody the chance to learn languages.
Babbel offers 14 learning languages - from English to Indonesian - and, since founding in 2007, we have grown to become the market leader in app-based language learning. There are 450 of us from over 41 different countries working hard to keep this going - we call ourselves ‘Babbelonians’.
We want to achieve and create even more. That’s where you come in.
As our Backend focused Software Engineer, you will be self-motivated, full of ideas as well as energy and drive the engineering of Babbel’s new products and services.
So, from one kind of language to another, we are looking to talk with passionate and dedicated Software Engineers who speak our languages….Ruby/Rails and JavaScript. Of course, we understand that with any language comes dialect, and we particularly enjoy listening to React.JS and Redux.JS dialects. Polyglots who also speak HTML/CSS are also welcome to join our party too. Experience in JS and Ruby testing frameworks using BDD/TDD as well as solid knowledge in REST-based API. Bonus points are on offer for those with AWS services experience, knowledge of other server side frameworks like Sinatra or Node.js or DevOps experience.
More broadly, we are looking for smart, passionate engineers who can share in our goal of widening access to language learning. You care about maintaining a clean code base and strive for technical excellence in the build of our product. Above all else, you are always personally learning and developing, and you have the maturity and skill base to make timely and sustainable individual contributions. And finally, excellent verbal and written English skills are must.
